Assembly Instructions

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Please follow carefully the assembly instructions included in the packaging of your new Harnois shelter. Never leave a shelter installed without anchoring.

IMPORTANT NOTICE – CONCRETE BLOCKS

Using concrete blocks to anchor a shelter to the ground holds certain risks. We do not recommend the use of concrete blocks laid on surfaces such as concrete, paving stone or asphalt because the blocks will then tend to slide as if they were on ice, due to the friction of the blocks on those surfaces.

This can occur especially during high wind periods. The wind can lift the shelter and the blocks being attached to the structure; the shelter will then fly away with the blocks. The distorted structure can fly as far as a neighbour’s house and yard, causing considerable damage along the way.

TARP, ANCHORS AND NUTS TENSION

We recommend that the tarp, anchors and nuts tension be verified regularly. Climatic fluctuations can loosen these parts. An adequately-tensioned tarp will last longer than one that blows in the wind. The doors of the Harnois shelter must always be closed to avoid any possible parachute effect.

ANCHORING OF YOUR HARNOIS SHELTER

Harnois shelters come with a basic anchor system (nails and anchor). This system alone is never enough to anchor a shelter. Click here to see other types of anchors you can use depending on the type of soil you plan on installing the shelter in or contact a Harnois dealer near you. He is a car shelter specialist who will be able to guide you in choosing a shelter that suits your needs best.

WINDSECURE KITS AND CABLE TIES:

We strongly recommend that windsecure kits and cable ties be used in addition to the basic anchor system that is provided with the shelter at purchase. These accessories will ensure the stability of the shelter in windy conditions and avoid friction between the tarp and steel structure, increasing the lifespan of the tarp and anchorings.

ALTERATIONS MADE TO THE TARP OR THE STRUCTURE

Do not install fodders, vinyl pieces or other materials between the tarp and structure. This will keep the snow on top of the shelter, causing excessive weight on the tarp, weakening the stitches and finally, causing premature tarp wear. Any alteration made to the shelter without authorization from Harnois Shelters revokes the warranty and can cause damages to the structure and tarp.

ATTACHING THE TARP TO THE STRUCTURE CORRECTLY

Never use cable ties or tie wraps to hold the tarp to the structure. We recommend that you use 3/16’’ rope or the brand new tie plus system.

HARNOIS SHELTERS INSTALLED IN A ROW

Do not install shelters near one another. We recommend planning at least 4 feet between each shelter, to decrease the lateral thrust of the snow that accumulates between the shelters.

VEHICLE

Never leave a vehicle running inside a shelter.

JUNCTION FLAP

A junction flap should never be more than four feet. It should be attached to the building with a wire-lock type fastener. Always attach wire-lock type fasteners to the building above the shelter.
